'Drama' in Malay is still 'drama'

I don't listen to Malay songs very often. Well, at one time I used to, especially songs by Francissca Peters, Ning Baizura and the occasional Siti Nurhaliza track. Most of the songs in my iPod are in English, with a smattering of old Eric Moo and Jackie Cheung karaoke standards just to assert my 'chineseness'. And until this week, the only two Malay songs in my 1200-strong iTunes library were Ning Baizura's 'Awan Yang Terpilu' and 'Selagi Ada Cinta' which I absolutely love (hence my reputation for being very 'drama' which is absolutely 100% not true, no matter what anybody says!)


Then, thanks largely in part to my nurse who sports this song as her personal handphone ringtone, I discovered Kaer Azami's debut single 'Izinkan Ku Pergi'. Literally meaning 'Allow Me To Go', the song deals with the singer's realisation that his love has found another. Spurned, he asks her to allow him to withdraw from the doomed relationship so that she can run to the arms of her new beau. Quite frankly, if I were him, I'd stick around and make her life hell for a bit....

Anyway, here's the video for the song, which presents an even more sombre setting (if that is possible) of the girl mourning for her recently departed love, with Kaer playing the spirit serenading her for one last time. I thought it was a tastefully produced music video which should kickstart Kaer's career in the local music scene. Enjoy.
